The California Institute of Jewelry Training in partnership with the Canadian Gemmological Association offers the Canadian Professional Gemmology Course which leads to the internationally recognized Diploma in Gemmology and Fellowship (FCGmA) in the Canadian Gemmological Association. The Canadian program was adapted from the FGA program by certified FGA gemologists over 50 years

Good news: those of you who have earned the Foundation Certificate with Gem-A will receive full credit and may enroll directly into the FCGmA Diploma course.

The program is internationally recognized and graduates of the program are employed in the gem trade throughout the world. Graduates work in all areas of the gem and jewelry trade as buyers, retailers, appraisers, educators and senior jewelry industry professionals.

In conjunction with the MasterValuer™ program, the graduate can progress to the field of professional jewelry appraising.

Classes are offered in residence at CIJT in Carmichael , California - instruction is provided by a qualified gemmologist with the FCGmA qualification.

Overview

Learn to be a professional certified gemmologist. Take the CIJT FCGmA Gemmology Course:

  • Full theory and practical tuition provided.
  • Course includes over 400 hours of classroom time.
  • Hands-on work with gemstones and gemmological instruments.

All classes and exams are conducted on-site at our fully equipped facilities at CIJT in Carmichael, CA USA. Membership is included with the fees, so your FCGmA* status comes automatically with the Diploma.

The fees include:

  • All course notes for the Preliminary and Diploma courses
  • Basic pocket instrument gem testing kit
  • Gemmology textbook
  • Fees for Preliminary and Diploma exams
  • CGA student membership

* The letters FCGmA (Fellow of the Canadian Gemmological Association) can be used only by current members holding the CGA Gemmological Diploma.

Prerequisites:

  • High School Graduation, or
  • Mature Student Status
  • University courses in the sciences, such as geology, mineralogy, chemistry, physics or crystallography are helpful, but not required.

Examinations

Examinations are held twice annually (January and June) at CIJT so your education and examinations are taken care of without travelling.
